'Face to Face' Pre-order Announcement
The sequel to 'Broken Bonds' is now available for purchase!
Dearest readers,
It is with great pleasure that I inform you that Face to Face—my second novel about Martin Luther, Desiderius Erasmus, and Philip Melanchthon—is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com. It picks up directly where Broken Bonds left off and covers events in the year 1525 and the very beginning of 1526.
When we left our heroes, Luther was troubled by the need to reply to Erasmus’ book On Free Will, the sentence of death hanging over his head, and a former nun who continued to frustrate him. Erasmus had just survived a horrific bout of kidney stones and was trying desperately not to acknowledge his fears about divine judgment to come. Melanchthon’s wife had given birth to their son prematurely, and now Philip is concerned the child could die or have lifelong difficulties, even as his own frustrations with Luther continue to grow.
The scene is now set for the German Peasants’ War, the largest popular uprising in Europe prior to the French Revolution. What will our heroes do when confronted with the breakdown of law and order? Will that former nun ever stop bothering Luther? Will he ever reply to Erasmus? Will Melanchthon remain in Wittenberg? Will his son be ok? And will Erasmus ever find peace within himself?
These questions and more will be (at least partially) answered in Face to Face. Martin Luther’s theology was shaped by his conviction that we are living before the face of God and will one day stand before him in eternity. (See Dr. Robert Kolb’s recent non-fiction work of the same name for more details.) Even so, we as humans must live before each other, fearing one another’s judgment, longing for one another’s love.
I am so grateful to 1517 Publishing for helping me get this second volume into the world. Expect to hear more about it in the coming months leading up to its release on November 11. Which is to say, prepare to be inundated.
